Time: The Karateka’s worst enemy!

Updated: Oct 26, 2020

We all have the same amount of time within a day, but what each of us do with each 24 hours can be very different. On the one hand, we could consider time as being our most valuable asset. On the other hand, there are so many things happening in our daily lives that sometimes, little to no time is left to do what we like best.. Karate!

So how do we fit our passion for Karate in our daily lives?

Some #Karateka in Okinawa are training up to 7 hours daily. Others like me, are lucky enough to be able to spend even more time on #Karate. It is obviously not possible for most people with a regular life (Job, family, etc..), to possibly dedicate this number of hours to practicing Karate. Unfortunately, the result of someone’s practice is directly related to the number of hours spent practicing and studying. Considering someone in Okinawa who practiced 7 hours a day from age 10 to 25 (15 Years) and become a junior Master, it would take well over 100 years for someone to match this experience at 6 hours a week of practice!. Studying Karate cannot simply be going to class and doing everything your Sensei says. This is also why it is so important to constantly try to make sense, and analyze everything you see and learn, so that answers come to you faster. You need to be engaged in "off-Dojo" practice/study and spend as much time as possible doing Karate at home to compensate for the restricted number of available hours most of us have here.

This being said, It is still possible to become a great Karateka, as long as you fully embrace Karate and commit yourself to thoroughly practicing and studying it. Personally, I don’t just see Karate as something to be practiced at the Dojo, but a 50/50 between Dojo and theoretical study! Believe me, the second part is extremely important to the advancement of your Karate, and if you are neglecting it, you are definitely missing out!

You can do this, but time is of the essence!

Here’s a chance to do some extra study to advance your understanding of Karate.
